Firebirds Visit Orleans Elementary

June 17, 2010

By Tyler Maland

Orleans, Mass. -Thursday morning, the Orleans Firebirds spent their first off-day of the 2010 summer playing wiffle-ball and signing autographs for students at the Orleans Elementary School just down the road from Eldredge Park.  Classes of all levels rotated time slots playing with the Firebirds, who were certified celebrities to the wide-eyed youngsters.

The Cape League games at Eldredge Park in Orleans are known for their community, kid-friendly atmosphere.  The team reaches out to that community throughout the summer by having fun and teaching young children about the game of baseball.  The Firebirds visited Welfleet and Eastham Elementary schools earlier this week, and have a stop at Truro planned as well.

In addition to the school visits, the famed Firebirds Baseball Clinic will run for its 30th summer, starting Monday, June 21st.  Boys and girls of all skill levels aged six to 13 can learn throwing, catching, fielding, hitting and baserunning from Firebirds players and coaches. Visit the Clinics Page for more information.
