Orleans, Mass. -Steve Selsky (Arizona) celebrated his birthday in style this past week, hitting .438 (7-for-16) with two home runs and a double, and on Sunday he received a belated birthday gift.  Selsky was named the Coca-Cola Player of the Week for Week 6 by the Cape Cod Baseball League, his first such honor in two years on the Cape.

SelskyThe award caps an outstanding week (July 18-24) for the right fielder from Manhattan Beach, California.  The home run on Tuesday against Brewster snapped a 0-for-16 drought at the plate and has spawned a six-game hitting streak.  Selsky added a ground-rule double in that game and has not looked back.

The following night, Selsky singled and drove home the only Firebirds run in a 2-1 loss to Harwich.  Back in Brewster on Friday, Selsky hit a monstrous solo home run over the scoreboard in left center to tie the game at 2-2, a game Orleans would eventually win 4-3.  He extended his hitting streak to six games over the weekend with three hits in the doubleheader with Falmouth on Saturday and a big RBI double against Bourne on Sunday.

Through 35 games, Selsky is third on the team in hitting (.261), second in hits (30) and first in doubles (6), home runs (4), RBI (16), walks (18) and hit by pitches (8).  The four home runs place him second in the league and the eight hit by pitches are a league-high.

Selsky batted .212 last summer in 30 games combined with the YD Red Sox and the Firebirds.
