Cole Figueroa gives the Cardinals a former Cape League All-Star in the infield

Figueroa and Viramontes Coming to Orleans!

The Orleans Cardinals have announced the signing of two more players for the summer of 2008 and now have 28 players on the roster. SS Cole Figueroa (Florida) and RHP Martin Viramontes (Loyola Marymount) will join the Cardinals in just a few weeks.
Figueroa comes to Orleans after spending last summer with the Harwich Mariners in which he represented the East Division in the All-Star Game as the team’s starting second baseman. With the Mariners, Figueroa hit .281, scored 14 runs, drove in 13 more and stole seven bases as their starting shortstop. Finishing up his sophomore campaign at the University of Florida, he is hitting .333 and leads the team with 49 RBIs. His seven home runs is tied for a team best as well. Figueroa is a teammate of returning Cardinal C Hampton Tignor (Florida) and will also show Cardinals’ fans an incredible glove in the infield.
Viramontes becomes the third player on the Orleans roster from Loyola Marymount. Playing under head coach Frank Cruz and current Cardinals assistant coach Scott Walter, Viramontes has had a successful freshman season. The 6-foot-5 right-hander has shown tremendous power on the hill and has struck out 54 hitters in just 48.2 innings pitched. In nine collegiate starts, Viramontes has gone 3-5 with a 6.10 ERA. He will join current teammates and fellow Cardinals OF Angelo Songco (Loyola Marymount) and IF Kyle Spraker (Loyola Marymount) in Orleans.
The Cardinals will begin their season in less than a month when they travel to Yarmouth-Dennis to take on the defending back-to-back champion Red Sox on June 14, 2008. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm eastern daylight time.
